OBJECTIVES OF CONSORTIUM

•  To facilitate diffusion and transfer of technology/knowledge from the innovative farmer to the farming community in general which could result in replication of innovative and sustainable agricultural models in all potential areas.

•  To aid in Kerala's agricultural transformation through stimulating productivity, quality and profitability.

•  To obtain synergy out of innovative farmers' knowledge and experience with the scientific knowledge of the research and extension agencies

•  To facilitate communication and information sharing among the progressive and innovative farmers of the State.

•  To provide information to the research organizations on real problems confronted by farming community for finding solutions to these problems and thus promote need based farmer oriented research

•  To help in documentation of success stories of successful innovative farmers for the benefit of the farming community

•  To suggest changes/ measures required to be taken at government level to bring about transformation of Agriculture sector in the State.

The terms of reference suggested for the Consortium are as follows:-

•  Suggest measures for replication of proven innovative agricultural practices in other potential areas

•  To help in documentation of success stories of innovative farmers through production of video films, CDs, conduct of special studies reports etc.

•  Identify constraints affecting productivity of crops and suggest measures for augmenting productivity based on farmer's wisdom and experience

•  Review the impact of programmes and policies for farmers including various incentives for farmers at field level and suggest suitable changes

•  Suggest measures for mitigating problems of small and marginal farmers of the state

•  Provide inputs/goals for research organisations and extension agencies

•  Serve as a forum for documentation of Farmers indigenous technical knowledge for replication

Role of SFAC

The Consortium will be constituted as an informal group to be headed by Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture. SFAC will act as the Secretariat of the Consortium. SFAC would meet the expenditure in connection with the functioning of the Consortium of Innovative Farmers. SFAC will document the experiences of the successful farmers and also launch programmes for duplicating the successful models in other potential areas.
